Today I parallel parked. Twice! Yes, it was a big space on a street with no traffic and it still took me five minutes and a lot of stress each time, but still! I did it!

It's hot and I'm sad with post-moot blues, and feeling bad because I didn't do the Serious things I'd intended to do today, but whatever. (I parallel parked!) I think I'm going to go out now and see Tropic Thunder.

Dragon Con is a week away. I've got Sam's stuff all packed and will start on MY stuff this weekend. I'm VERY excited if for no other reason than how much I'm looking forward to spending time with abandonada and seeing all my friends.

But.. I confessed something to her this morning that I'm going to share with all of you as well, fully realizing how nuts it sounds and how I may not be able to say this in a way that makes sense. Here's my confession: Part of me wishes that Sean would cancel.

OK. There it is. I've said it. And it's NOT because I don't want to see him. I DO! I've got a shirt to give him that I made with my own two little hands. I want to print out some pages from SANET to show him. It's always exciting for me to get to interact with him. But.. it's also very stressful. I want to be SURE to see his panels, so that eliminates the chance to see other people's panels that I really LIKE (NATHAN FILLION OMG!). I fret about 'should I wear the Sam outfit for my photo op'. I fret about what ELSE to wear at the photo op. What should I say to him? How should I say it? (in that 30 second time span that you actually get in the celebrity's company)

But mainly just because it's stressful. There's always so little time. I'm always afraid I won't seem dignified. I'm always fearful that I'll come off too fangirlish. Not that there's anything wrong with being a fangirl. I'm a HUGE fangirl. But I just don't want to seem over-the-top. And I get so nervous when I'm actually in his company. Cons where he's not appearing create a lot less anxiety inside me.

So there IS a part of me that wishes Sean wasn't going to be there.

Yet.. at the same time, I'm SO excited about seeing him! Is this kind of mixed-emotions thing NORMAL? Or am I just being a dork!!

*sigh* As Sam would say... I'm hopeless.

Ménagè a 3? SO not worth Gisèle Lagacé's talents. I keep hoping she'll drop it. I wouldn't mind the inane fanservice-centered sexist set-up with its stereotypical characters if it wasn't for the thought that Giz could be doing something so much better. And SINCE WHEN did she have to suddenly draw Didi with a flat belly? She would be moderately believable with nice soft fat around her legs and belly. Somehow I don't think Giz had free reign with the character design.

GRAHR. Must... not... criticize my favourite artists' choices.

- a banana
- a moderate-sized lunch box of these meatball-like things with Nasi Goreng
- a small packet of crisps
- some candy brought by a co-worker from her holidays
- a nice juicy carrot

Drank lots of Coke Zero and a cup of cocoa and another of coffee from the machine. And a cup of tea.


Today I ate:

I don't even like coffee. Might still end up eating more today of course.

I have been reading the Anne of Green Gables books and just finished Anne's House of Dreams. It's about the twee'est thing that ever tweed, but I loved the characters of Miss Cornelia and Cap'n Jim, and it made me cry.

...Still way too twee. I almost disliked Anne.

My fave questionable lines in the series so far:

Hey, Claudia! I had lunch at a Indian-Caribbean restaurant today! I ordered a roti with potato and chickpea curry and it was very yummy. I'm going to have the leftovers for dinner in a little bit.

Today I'm happy because I have a working bike. I bought this bike about five years ago but stopped using it around three years ago when I moved to an apartment at the top of a hill. :) It was in bad shape then but I never bothered to take it in to get it fixed until last week because it just wouldn't be practical or fun for me to bike anywhere from there. But I finally took it in last week and was able to pick it up this afternoon. My parents' neighborhood is awesome for biking and I just went for a very short ride by the nearest lake, and it was absolutely lovely. I'll be out of town for the next few days but at least I should be able to use it a little more before the end of the summer.

Of course I'm also happy that I'm leaving for Seattle tomorrow and will be seeing some of my dearest friends in the next few days, but I'm saving that for future posts. Whoo!

I can feel the consistency of my skin changing, even if it's not exactly wrinkly or drooping yet. 29! How awful.

BTW, teenagers? You know how your parents tell you that zits are only for a few years, that they'll be gone when you're a young woman/man? THEY LIE. YOU WILL LIVE WITH THEM UNTIL YOUR SKIN BEGINS TO DROOP. Possibly even longer, and you'll have acne scars to boot! Therefore, scream and shout and throw tantrums until they take you to a good dermatologist; none of these cosmetology students trying to sell you coconut milk, get someone who went to med school. This will save your teenhood, and teenhood is an important part of your life to save.

I really like Coldplay's new album, Viva la Vida. I think I like it as a whole album better than A Rush of Blood and X and Y even though those have some songs that I like better than any of the new songs. Most of the new songs don't really stick out to me but I like the way they fit together. I think Parachutes is still my favorite but I've only had the new one for a week so it's hard to say.

Sometimes I'm embarrassed by how much I love Coldplay (and U2), like if I were really cool I'd be into some indie bands nobody else had ever heard of. ( Read more... )

First off, there's this!




Two weeks from Wednesday I leave for Atlanta!!! Wheeee!!! It'll take forever to get here... and be over before I can blink my eyes.

And THEN....

Take a look at this!! The amazing and wonderfully talented magickalmolly had made my beloved Sam a new PURSE! And I just love it! I'm truly so very blessed to have someone as sweet AND as talented as her creating my Sam Costume.

I can't tell you how excited I am at the thought of being Sam again. I just love it. SO looking forward to the 'Evening at Bree' and their costume contest. I think that abandonada and I will definitely be in the running!

I ALSO think that I'm going to have to pack two bags, and that Northwest, those greedy jackasses, are going to charge me for the second one. Oh well, can't be helped. I can't get everything of mine AND Sam's into one suitcase. He's just got too much stuff. Unlike ME who packs so very lightly! HA!!

It seems that Sean's scheduled appearances at DC have changed. He WAS scheduled to appear twice, once on Friday and once on Saturday. Now, he's only appearing once, and that's on Sunday. Hopefully THAT won't change. I AM sad that Adam Baldwin had to cancel. I adore 'Firefly' and love Jayne to pieces. I would have loved to have seen him. But there's tons of great people left. I'm a huge Star Trek fan and Michael Dorn is appearing! George Takei is also there, but unfortunately his panel is at the same time as Sean's. He also appears on Friday though, so maybe I'll still have a shot at seeing him.

In ANY case, I'm overjoyed to be attending this con, to see my friends, to hang out with abandonada, and to have the chance to be my beloved Sam once more. What fun!!!

Today I'm happy that I've stuck to my tiny daily writing goals so far this month. I've written at least 100 words of fic every day, most of it on my Doctor Who fic for the tindogs_fic exchange. To be honest, this is really not going very well. I've been treating it like a chore and not enjoying it much at all. Most days as soon as I get over the 100 words (which is really very little) I stop and go to do something easier. Connected to that, what I've written has been pretty bad and I still don't know what I'm doing with the story, which needs to be posted by the end of the month. I like the assignment I got but I'm not sure it was a great idea to jump into a new fandom with an exchange where I'll really be letting someone down if I don't finish or if my story sucks. :( I just don't know what I'm doing, writing wise; I feel disconnected from my old hobbit stuff but I haven't found my place with a new fandom either. Still, I am proud for having stuck to the resolution at least, and today I brought it over 1000 words, which is the fest minimum, so that is a happy-making milestone.

I've also stuck with doing this happy meme every day since I started on the second, and I'm feeling really good about that. I worry that I'll run out of happy things to post about and that keeps me looking for them all the time, even looking for the bright side of things that bug me. For instance, yesterday almost as soon as I realized I'd gotten my period I started trying to spin it into something positive (not pregnant, will have most of it over with when I travel next week, etc.). It's nice having an excuse to post about stuff that's not newsworthy or profound but that's on my mind but that could be a chance for a connection with one or two people on my f-list. And of course it cheers me up to write them out.

I'm not sure how well I'll be able to keep up with either of these things while I'm in Seattle next week (the 13th to the 18th) or once school starts up at the end of the month, but I will try. Heck, maybe being busier will be good for me and help me get organized and motivated, or something.

.... I FINALLY got them to sorta SMILE!

Billy left for Florida today. Man, that was a fast three weeks! I'll miss him very much. *sigh*

So, okay, Tyson is talking about the new album and seriously, you guys, I am ridiculously excited. SO EXCITED. The little bits and snatches and tracking I've heard on Rejects TV and the performances they've done, mostly Mona Lisa and I Wanna Touch You, have whetted my appetite for this album. And OH MY GOD. There's a song called Hope This Gives You Hell! Which might be the eponymous song! They're doing political stuff again! Damn, Girl is "the jam, man!"! Is it bad that I want Another Heart Calls to be a poly song? I can't help it, dammit, Stab My Back reads so much like a failed attempt at polyamory and it makes me SADFACE /o\ MAKE IT BETTER, RITTER.

That one's going to make me cry, isn't it? It's going to slam into my spine and make me tilt my head up and face the world, and my heart stand up and jump and swell. Because that's what rock does, slams of guitars and drums and bass, it calls me to believe in something, and these dudes get it. Fuck, I love that band.

For the meme: Today I'm happy because I have new shoes that are both comfortable and very cute. This is the second pair of Sketchers I've bought this year. I bought the other pair mostly because I liked how they look but they turned out to be great for walking too, so I'm happy to have these new ones, which are almost as funky and look like they'll be slightly better for walking.

We are looking for good Pippin fics at lotr_fic_recs. It was great to get a rec from mews1945 right away on the first night and they've been coming in steadily since then. The challenge will be open for another week and a half, here.

If I weren't expecting this September and October to be horribly stressful for me in real life I would totally sign up for the Finish-a-thon at multific: "The finish-a-thon is a ficathon, with all the ficathon-like things like deadlines and fellow volunteers to encourage you, but with this ficathon, you write your own ideas. But since part of the encouragement of a ficathon is writing things for other people, what we're going to do, is vote for which story ideas people should write." In the sign-ups you list at least three stories that you've been wanting to write or to finish, and later on there'll be a poll so that others can choose which one you're going to finish this fall. You decide whether voting is open just to other challenge participants or to everyone (including your f-list and others more likely to read your fic). Sign-ups end on August 15th, fics are due by October 24th.
